MINISTRY EXPERIENCE

ASSOCIATION MINISTRY COORDINATOR - PITTSYLVANIA BAPTIST ASSOCIATION
I began service with the Association on November 1, 2005 working and coordinating the cooperative mission efforts of forty-seven churches.

KINGDOM ADVANCE FIELD STRATEGIST FOR THE RIDGE AND VALLEY REGION OF VIRGINIA
I served the Virginia Baptist Mission Board as the Field Strategist in the Ridge and Valley Region for the Empowering Leaders Team. The region consists of 254 churches in the Shenandoah Valley section of Virginia. My primary task is to work with churches seeking pastors and staff that are seeking changes. One of my major focuses is training of pastor search committees. I am also involved in strategic planning, leadership training, conflict management and consultations, plus working with the other teams on the Board to accomplish the aims and goals of Kingdom Advance. I assumed the position the newly created position in January of 2003 but have been with the Board since 1997.

MISSION RESOURCE CONSULTANT: VIRGINIA BAPTIST MISSION BOARD /
DIRECTOR OF MISSIONS: AUGUSTA AND NATURAL BRIDGE ASSOCIATIONS
Prior to January of 2003 I served as the Valley Mission Resource Consultant for the Virginia Baptist Mission Board as well as Director of Missions for the Augusta Baptist Association and the Natural Bridge Associations. I began with the Augusta Association in June of 1995, the Natural Bridge Association in 1996, and VBMB in 1997. My responsibilities included three associations totaling 79 churches and missions, 11 counties in Virginia, and 3 counties in West Virginia. My purpose was to facilitate the AChurch First @ strategy of Virginia Baptist by taking the resources of the Board to the churches and to serve the churches in the associations.
During my tenure, we processed a Korean Mission, a Russian Congregation, a Hispanic Mission, a Ministry to truckers, a new work start called Faith Mountain Baptist church, helped to facilitate the First Baptist Lexington, an African/American congregation, into the association, helped start a new contemporary church called Harvest Pointe Community Fellowship.
Using PowerPoint, I developed the following training seminars; Theological base for Deacons, The Art of Ministry Listening, The Art of Directing Conversations, George Bullard's 7 Levels of Conflict, the Church Life Cycle, plus the Peacemakers Seminar. I have also conducted an average of five training seminars a year, in local churches, whose topics ranged from deacon training to church health.
I have been certified as a Conflict Management Consultant by both George Bullard ( North Carolina) and Gwyn Davis of the VBMB. I have conducted several conflict management processes with churches in the past eight years.
I have written and published a training module entitled 7 Strands of Church Health: Where is the Enemy? The material is a systems approach to church health and a pro-active approach to conflict. Working with conflict and seeking better ways to help churches become healthier has been my passion over the past few years. The book was published in corporation with the Center for Creative Church Leadership Development and the encouragement of Bob Dale.
I am a Level Two certified consultant for MAP, Moving Ahead with Purpose, which is a strategic planning process. I have conducted several MAP processes which are usually six months in duration.
My personal goal, in the beginning, was to visit with the pastor of each church as quickly as possible. I accomplished that in the first two years.

SENIOR PASTOR: KONABAPTISTCHURCH. Kailua-Kona, Hawaii 3/14/91 to 9/1/94.
Kona Baptist is a multiethnic congregation. My tasks included the supervision of two English speaking missions and one Korean. We targeted a Filipino and an Hispanic work for the near future and developed plans for an English speaking outreach south of us, in an area that has no Baptist outreach. We were to utilize an elementary school and Bible study at first. We also operated a weekday child care center that had eight employees and an enrollment of 57. The director, the area Director of Mission =s wife, was a staff member. During my tenure we utilized six summer missionaries and had two Mission Service Corp. volunteers who stayed with us for a year. We used the volunteer staff to operate a summer program within the confines of a local apartment complex and to conduct Vacation Bible School.
STAFF & SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Music Director part time, Two Mission pastors full time, One mission pastor part time, Director of Day Care ministry full time, secretary full time, two Summer Missionaries each year, and one Mission Service Corp. couple for a year.
I felt the Lord was leading us to leave Hawaii and return home to be closer to family. Our youngest son graduated from High School in May of 1994 and our other two sons were living in Texas. The distance prevented any visiting or support. My Mother's advanced age and Glenda's Father's battle with cancer finalized the decision to be within reasonable traveling distance of family. My Mother passed away in 1997.

PASTOR: UNIVERSITYHILLSBAPTISTCHURCH. Austin, Texas 6/9/85 to 3/15/91.
The attendance increased by 75% in the first two years. The Church was characteristically professional, managerial, and educational people in a transitional neighborhood. University Hills was caught up in the 1987 market crash and we lost all of our gain in about six months. We started a Hispanic mission during the tenure.

PASTOR: TRINITYBAPTISTCHURCH San Angelo, Texas 10/1/81 to 6/9/85.
The average attendance increased by 35%. I led the church to become debt free by paying off a $35,000 balloon note. I taught Old Testament and New Testament Survey in the local high school for three semesters. We started a mission in a local trailer park that eventually developed into a church that meets off sight.

PASTOR: FIRSTBAPTISTCHURCH Coolidge, Texas 1980 - 1981.
We established a Hispanic mission in the area by using English as a Second Language.

PASTOR: MEMORIALBAPTISTCHURCH Oakwood, Texas. 1979 - 1980
This was my first church after graduating from the Seminary. We baptized more people the year I was there than they had in the previous 10 years. I was the only staff member.

PASTOR: FIRSTBAPTISTCHURCH Bayside, Texas 1975 – 1977
I left this by-vocational church to go to the Seminary. We were able to grow from 15 to 45 in Sunday School and saw a number of additions by profession of faith.

SUPPLY PREACHING: I spend a good deal of my time preaching in churches for a variety of reasons from supply to mission presentations. In the past eight years I have only had about twenty Sundays where I attended my home church because I had been invited to speak at other churches.

EVANGELIST: I have conducted numerous revivals in Texas, Iowa, New Mexico, and Mexico, Panama, and Virginia.
I have participated in Partnership Mission projects in Mexico and Panama.

MAJOR SECULAR WORK EXPERIENCE

BRANCH MANAGER: The Thiele Company (distributors for Zenith in south Texas). The branch office was located in Corpus Christi. I became manager at the age of 27. I worked in the television field 12 years before going to the Seminary. A complete chronology of work experience prior to ministry is available upon request.

PERSONAL STATEMENT

I came to know Christ at the age of nine and was baptized into the membership of Morgan Avenue Baptist Church in Corpus Christi, Texas. God called me to the preaching/pastoring ministry while serving as bus pastor and Sunday School director at Memorial Baptist Church. I see the call to ministry as one of enabling the membership to become a functional part of reaching the lost and nurturing the fellowship. My main passion in church work has shifted to a major emphasis on church health as the way to enhance the education, evangelism and mission endeavors of the church.
